JS Bach
Sinfonia in D, BWV 1045
Die Elenden sollen essen, BWV 75

Eamonn Dougan, Associate Conductor of The Sixteen, Founding Director of Britten Sinfonia Voices and Music Director of the Thomas Tallis Society, kicks off our ‘Bach the European’ 2021 season. The Sinfonia in D is in essence a single-movement violin concerto, performed here by a student soloist, and is often considered to be a surviving movement from a lost cantata. The extended cantata Die Elenden sollen essen, written for the first Sunday after Trinity, was the first work that Bach composed following his move to Leipzig in 1723.

Performed on historical instruments.

This concert will be livestreamed on the Academy's YouTube channel and is free to watch.
