Bach the European: From Ancient Cosmos towards Enlightenment

Space

With over 200 sacred and secular cantatas performed in Duke’s Hall over 10 years, the Kohn Foundation/Royal Academy of Music Bach Cantata Series draws to a close in December 2018. ‘All good things come to an end’ might be one reaction. Or we could say: ‘What shall we do with Bach now?’ Given the Academy’s strong identification with Bach since 1822, including dozens of first performances outside Germany, we feel more committed than ever to exploring his music. After a decade of immersion in the solar plexus of Bach’s choral music, we are now presenting a new series entitled Bach the European: from Ancient Cosmos towards Enlightenment, the aim of which is to place Bach in a productive and challenging new context.
