Böhm Praeludium in CHandel GloriaJS Bach Ricercar a 6 from The Musical Offering, BWV 1079O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit, BWV 210
The music in this concert has strong connections with the Hanseatic cities of northern Germany, those great centres of commerce and trade in which music also flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries. Although Bach and Handel were from central Germany, they both maintained close connections with north German music making throughout their lives. Handel’s Gloria was discovered in the Academy vaults in 2000. The music of the north unmistakably runs like a vein through the masterpieces on today’s programme.
Performed on historical instruments.
