Academy Song Circle: A Mayrhofer Schubertiade

Woman singing

Schubert set 47 of Mayrhofer’s poems to music. In other words, with the sole exception of Goethe, he was Schubert’s favourite poet for Lieder composition. Composed from manuscript (Mayrhofer’s poems were not published until 1824), these songs include such gems as ‘Auf der Donau’, ‘Abendstern’ and ‘Nachtstück’.
