Dwylo Dethol

Sioned and anne

Sioned Williams and Anne Denholm harp

Debut performance of Dwylo Dethol presenting an evening of music for harps by Pencerdd Gwalia, John Thomas (1826 –1913), Harpist to Queen Victoria.  Celebrating Thomas’s virtuosity in renditions of Welsh melodies, contrasted with his own exquisite arrangements of Schubert and Mendelssohn, the playing will be interspersed with readings of poems and words from Sioned’s extensive research discoveries.

A select display of subject-related materials (letters, photos, music) will enhance the evening.

Sioned and Anne enjoy diverse careers as soloists, educators, orchestral and chamber musicians, whilst both are committed to new music and to pursuing the harp’s fullest potential through diverse programming. Sioned was Principal Harp of the BBCSO for nearly thirty years, and Anne is one of the founder members of The Hermes Experiment. Dwylo Dethol was formed through passion for their Welsh heritage, and a desire to share the richness of original and arranged music by John Thomas, enlightened by Sioned’s continuing research with scripted words bringing a story to life in each performance.

Free, no tickets required.
